Multiple Interests Are Your Superpower
A Personal Journey

After reading Dan Koe's latest newsletter about thriving with multiple interests, I felt compelled to share my own perspective. As someone who has always had multiple interests, his perspective on embracing diverse passions really struck a chord.
The Pressure to Fit In
Like many others, I grew up believing that success meant choosing one clear path. Society, education, and conventional wisdom all pointed toward specialization as the "safe" route. The message was clear: pick one thing, become really good at it, and that's your ticket to a secure future.
For years, I tried to fit into this mold. I focused on building solid foundations in traditional fields, earned my credentials, and followed a conventional path. On paper, everything looked perfect. But inside, something felt off. I had this constant nagging feeling that I was meant to explore more, learn more, create more.
The Peru Catalyst
Everything changed when I decided to take a leap of faith and travel to Peru. This wasn't just any vacation – it was my first solo international adventure, and it transformed my entire perspective on life and possibilities.
Standing atop Machu Picchu, surrounded by the mystical energy of ancient wisdom, I had an epiphany: the world is so much bigger than the boxes we try to fit ourselves into. This journey taught me that my desire to explore multiple interests wasn't a weakness – it was my greatest strength.
Embracing the Tech Journey
After returning from Peru, my curiosity led me down several fascinating paths simultaneously. I began exploring technology, teaching myself to code and building a Discord bot. I dove deep into artificial intelligence, experimenting with different AI tools and understanding their transformative potential. The world of cryptocurrencies captured my attention, where I found myself fascinated by the intersection of technology and finance. Writing became another passion, as I started documenting my journey and insights through blog posts and creative projects. What amazed me was how each of these interests enhanced my understanding of the others – every new field of knowledge adding depth to my perspective.
Instead of trying to become a specialist in one area, I started seeing myself as a curator of knowledge, drawing connections between different fields:
AI tools enhancing my productivity and creative processes
Analytical skills improving my crypto research and tech projects
Tech understanding deepening my writing about digital innovation
Travel experiences providing fresh perspectives for creative content
Writing helping me process and share my diverse learnings
The Power of Being a Generalist
What I've learned is that being a generalist – or as some call it, a polymath – is increasingly valuable in today's world. The ability to connect dots across different domains, to see patterns where others see chaos, to bring diverse perspectives to problem-solving – these are superpowers in an age of increasing specialization.
My own journey has shown me that:
Different interests cross-pollinate in unexpected ways
Authentic curiosity leads to unique insights
The courage to explore multiple paths opens new opportunities
Real innovation happens at the intersection of different fields
Building in Public
Today, I'm documenting my journey through this blog, sharing both successes and struggles. I'm building projects that combine my various interests - experimenting with AI tools, exploring crypto markets, developing tech solutions, and creating content. Each new skill I learn adds another color to my palette, allowing me to paint a more vibrant picture of possibilities. Through my writing, I aim to bridge the gap between complex technical concepts and practical, human-centered applications.
Looking Forward
The future belongs to those who can adapt, learn, and synthesize knowledge from multiple domains. As Dan Koe points out, traditional specialization is becoming less secure in a world of rapid change and AI advancement.
Instead of fighting against our natural curiosity and diverse interests, we should embrace them. They're not distractions – they're the very things that make us uniquely human and irreplaceable.
Final Thoughts
If you're someone who's always been interested in multiple things, who's felt guilty about not being able to "focus on one thing," know this: your diverse interests are not a bug, they're a feature. In a world of increasing automation and AI, our ability to connect different domains, to think creatively across boundaries, and to bring diverse perspectives to problems is more valuable than ever.
Embrace your curiosity. Trust your journey. Your multiple interests are your superpower – use them wisely.
This reflection was inspired by Dan Koe's newsletter on thriving with multiple interests. While our perspectives and experiences may differ, his insights provided a valuable framework for articulating my own journey.

A really cool example of Perplexity Deep Research: go through your portfolio, pull up information from the web about recent executive orders, and tell you which companies in your portfolio are impacted with a risk assessment. Something you would be paying a financial advisor 0.x%… x.com/i/web/status/1…
